PokemonSquishmallows briefly appeared in Walmart stores, but they have since reportedly disappeared as part of a “recall.” BeforePokemonpartnered with Squishmallows to create official plushies based on the franchise’s popular creatures, there was an attempt by The Pokemon Company to create equivalent plushies. ThesePokemonSquishy dollshad their fans, but many were still holding out hope for officialPokemonSquishmallows.
In 2022, those hoping forPokemonSquishmallows had their wish granted. TheofficialPokemonSquishmallow partnershipwas announced, with the first two plushies based on franchise mascot Pikachu and wildly popular Ghost-type Pokemon Gengar. ThePokemonSquishmallows, priced at $29.99 apiece, quickly sold out, though they are expected to come back in stock at some point in the near future. In the meantime, somePokemonfans spotted Pikachu and Gengar Squishmallows at their local Walmart stores at much lower prices, but it appears they were put on the store floor by mistake.

Various posts on Reddit and elsewhere on social media have shown cardboard Squishmallow bins at Walmarts that are stuffed full of Pikachu and Gengar plushies. These plushies are reportedly priced at around $15 to $17, meaning they’re about half off the usual asking price. Some users have reported the quality of these WalmartPokemonSquishmallows isn’t quite as high as the ones from the Pokemon Center online store, so that could explain why they’re cheaper. While one may be able to visit their local Walmart and find these displays still, there have been reports online that they have actually been “recalled.”
Some users on the official Squishmallow subreddit have said that their local Walmarts have been pulling down thePokemonSquishmallow displays, claiming that the plushies have been “recalled.” No reasons for a “recall” have been given, but as pointed out by Nintendo Life, the claim has been made that these displays were put out prematurely. It’s been claimed that thePokemonSquishmallowsare actually supposed to be put out starting January 9, but there is no concrete evidence backing up those claims.
Plenty ofPokemontoysare sold at Walmart, so it would make sense forPokemonSquishmallows to appear at the retail giant at some point as well. It’s clear that these plushies are going to be a big hit withPokemonfans, even if they aren’t quite as high quality as the ones being sold by the Pokemon Center. While the quality difference may be a deal breaker for some, others will be happy to simply get their hands on any kind ofPokemonSquishmallow, especially since the other ones are sold out.
