Pokemon GOhas gradually added Mega Evolutions to the game, giving Pokemon a powerful variant to utilize in battle. With a limited number of Mega Evolution Pokemon, though, it may be time for the game to move on to another mechanic.

Pokemon GOchannel Poke AK took to the internet to discuss a newPokemon GOleakthat was shared with them. According to the anonymous leaker, Gigantamax Pokemon are in the works, and will be utilized in special Gigantamax raids in the future. Information regarding exactly which Pokemon will receive the form first and when they’ll be added to the title remains unclear, but what is allegedly in the works may ruffle some feathers in the community.

Pokemon GO Gigantamax Raids Utilize a Familiar Mechanic

Players who are familiar with the game’s raids already know thatPokemon GOuses a raid pass system. Joining a remote raid requires using a remote raid pass, which is an in-game shop item that can be acquired with real money. According to the leak, the Gigantamax system will work in a similar way, but with its own energy meter. Described as “MP,” players will be granted 100 points to challenge Gigantamax raids with. After those points are depleted, players will have to purchase an item to restore the energy so they can go on another raid.

While this is something that many players would likely expect, that doesn’t mean that it will be well-received. Many players have taken issue with the amount of monetization in the game already, with frustrations including the difficulty acquiring essential items like Poke Balls and Revives without buying from the store with real-world cash. Adding another form of monetization to the game could be poorly received if it’s handled badly by Niantic.

Unfortunately, players are already frustrated with the game due to the recentPokemon GOavatar overhaul. Many players have expressed wanting their old avatars back and some are upset that the poses and items they paid real money for aren’t working the way they used to. Introducing new features and Pokemon to collect regularly are essential to keepingPokemon GOplayers playing, but especially right now, it will require some finesse to introduce another paid feature without turning off even more players.
