Brimming with content thanks to its massive open world,Elden Ringcan take over a hundred hours for players to fully experience. With enemies both weak and strong around every corner, hidden dungeons filled with traps, and secrets sprinkled throughout the game,Elden Ringis an explorer’s paradise.
One of the rarer creatures to be found in the open world is the teardrop scarabs and the balls they constantly roll around. Like the crystal lizards from theSoulsseries, these scarabs tend to hold valuable treasure that can be claimed by players if they can be killed in time. “In time” is integral, as if they are not slain quickly, the scarabs will despawn, vanishing into thin air and usually takingpreciousElden RingAshes of Warwith them.

Early on in the game, the scarabs are pretty tame, simply attempting to run from the player when spotted. However, later into the game they typically come with traps involving enemies or will teleport away from the player when approached. Some scarabs such as the one that dropsElden Ring’s hoarfrost stompappear to be invisible, sprinting in circles that can only be tracked by footprints. Luckily, for those wishing to see a very accurate depiction of the scarabs in reality, a dung beetle statue in London’s Regents Park offers an entirely immobile pair that unfortunately holds no rewards for citizens.
Reddit user MentalOriental captured a picture of the art piece, created by artist and sculptor Wendy Taylor, in the park and immediately made the connection betweenElden Ring’s scarabs and the dung beetles being represented. The resemblance is uncanny, with the beetles looking almost exactly alike the game’s scarabs as well as showing the two guarding their sacred treasure. Now, the sacred treasure these two beetles are guarding is perhaps more fitting ofElden Ring’s disgusting Dung Eater, but regardless the statue is incredibly recognizable to fans of the game.
The title of the post, “Precious item ahead,” is a reference to the teardrop scarabs carrying great loot, and other Reddit users were quick to join in with more jokes of their own. One user commented that the statue must hold some seriously epic loot if two scarabs are guarding it. Another user joked about how the statue probably just gives a health potion back, referencing a different, more disliked type of scarab from the game that unfortunately does not drop treasure.
