The success ofResident Evil Villageis pretty much set in stone by now. A decline in sales didn’t stopVillagefromclaiming the top spot in the UK, and with players modifying the game to their heart’s content, it’s clear that the acclaimed survivor horror title won’t lose replayability any time soon.

Part of the massive replayability ofVillageis due to the tons of secrets left for fans to uncover. One fan recently noticeda crazy detail about Lady Dimitrescu and her dungeon, one that contributes to the personality of the character and atmosphere in-game. TheResident Evilseries is already renowned for small details and easter eggs that breathe life into the world, and one discovery by a fan was made in the previous entry,Resident Evil 7.

Resident Evil 7andVillagewere developed alongside one another, with development on the latter beginning a few months before the launch ofResident Evil 7. While it was already assumed that the two games would be connected storywise, one fan discovered an interesting detail about the pause menu inResident Evil 7. Reading the first letter of each word on the menu spells “ROSE”.

As mostResident Evilfans are aware of by now, Rose is the nickname of Rosemary Winters, the daughter of Ethan and Mia Winters. The character hadn’t been alive during the events ofResident Evil 7, though Rose serves as a more prominent character inVillageand is expected to have a larger role going forward, especially givenher current age.

This is a pretty cool easter egg givenVillage’sending and one could even go as far as to theorize that Rose had a hand in helping Ethan survive even back then. Conspiracy theories and tin-foil aside, chances are this is all just a huge coincidence. Even though both games were in the same creative space, andResident Evilloves making connections, this could have just been a slight oversight by developers.

Altogether, this isn’t entirely an odd thing for both games to have in common, even if located somewhere as unconventional as the pause menu. TheResident Evilseries as a whole is known for the little secrets, and the buzz generated by the coincidence only adds to its overall success. Of course, there’s no telling whatother secrets may come from diving into the files inVillage. It’s likely pointless to do so, though some fans have no doubt taken to doing just that.

Resident Evil Villageis out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
