All of the attention fromResident Evilfans may be squarely on the upcomingResident Evil Village(and itstall vampire ladythat nearly the entire Internet has fallen in love with), but Capcom doesn’t want fans to forget about the otherResident Eviltitle releasing next month along with it. Multiplayer gameResident Evil Re:Verseis also coming out in May, with it even being bundled with copies ofVillageand, as a reminder, its open beta will be taking place very soon.
The beta will begin on April 7 at 11pm PDT/April 8 at 2am EDT and run for two days until April 10 11pm PDT/April 11 2am EDT. And since particularly eager players will no doubt want to be able to jump into the game immediately, pre-loads have gone live across all available platforms, namely the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.

As a reminder,Re:Verseis part of the franchise’s 25th anniversary celebrations and can be best described as a battle-royale-like game featuring some of the series most recognized and iconic characters, from original heroes Chris Redfield and Jill Valentine to villains like Jack Baker fromResident Evil 7. In order to win a match, players must collect virus samples to increase their damage and accuracy. And once a player dies, they will transform into a powerful bioweapon like Nemesis fromResident Evil 3.
When it was first announced, it didn’t exactly receive a standing ovation fromResident Evilfans, with many criticizing its visuals and comparing it unfavorably to previous multiplayer entries in the series likeUmbrella Corps. The game did have a closed beta sometime ago so exposing it to the general public could certainly help its standing, which it most definitely needs if Capcom wishes it to be successful.
It had attempted something similar when it releasedResident Evil Resistance, an asymmetrical multiplayer game, as a companion piece to theResident Evil 3 Remake. While it cultivated a dedicated fanbase, it wasn’t supported for very long, with the last update being added in July 2020, only three months after release. With how little fans seem to be invested inRe:Verseand it being free forVillageowners, it seems very likely that Capcom’s new attempt could go down the exact same path and be forgotten about in only a few months time.
At the very least, everything is pointing towardsResident Evil Villagereceiving a warm reception once it launches next month. The next mainline entry in the series,Villageonce again focuses on Ethan, the protagonist fromResident Evil 7, and sees series regular Chris take on a new antagonistic role.
Resident Evil Re:Versewill release on May 7 for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
