Road 96isn’t a game that made a ton of waves when it was originally released mid-2021. It did, however, receive a number of awards, nominations, and positive critical reviews. Suffice to say,Road 96is a game worth playing, but it was limited by the reach of indie publishing and financial support for only PC and Switch versions at launch. Now thatRoad 96has found some success, Digixart can resolve some of those limitations.Road 96now has a release date for both PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

In a message shared on Twitter,Digixartconfirmed that it would be bringingRoad 96to PlayStation and Xbox platforms. The official release date for the console ports is April 14. While the message on social media doesn’t explicitly state which platforms are confirmed to be supported, a trailer lists PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. That leaves Xbox One support somewhat ambiguous until Digixart is able to provide further clarification.

As previously noted,Road 96is already available on the Nintendo Switch, so this isn’t the first time that it will be coming to console. The Switch’s environment for indie games is much better, particularly for titles that may otherwise struggle with getting attention. Now thatRoad 96has some momentum, arriving on PlayStation and Xbox’s crowded marketplaces makes more sense. Hopefully, it’s rewarded for the decision.

Road 96is a story-driven adventure game that puts players on the road through theauthoritariannation of Petria, where they’ll encounter any number of oddities and obstacles. It’ll swing back and forth between tense, emotional encounters and sequences of brutal intensity. Figuring out life under the umbrella of impression is, ultimately, a surprisingly relatable experience balancing hopefulness and a sardonic smile at the same time. It’s unique, in that regard.

If the plot summary didn’t captureRoad 96’s essence, Digixart’s past titles may offer a better look at what the game is. Digixart previously worked on bothLost in Harmony, a rhythm runner with a lot of heart, and11-11: Memories Retold, an adventure game based onWorld War Iwhich laid the groundwork forRoad 96.

Those unwilling to wait forRoad 96’s release on PlayStation and Xbox consoles can pick up the game now both on PC and Nintendo Switch. Those who would prefer the game on their console of choice only have a bit more than a month before it hitsPlayStation and Xbox, too.

Road 96releases April 14 on PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, but is available now on PC and Switch.
