For a couple of years now, the rumor has been that the nextAssassin’s Creedgame will be about Vikings. These rumors gained more momentum when aposter inThe Division 2showed a Viking Assassin, and since then there have been many more rumors about the game - some real, some fake. A new rumor making the rounds online reportedly comes from sources close to the project, but fans should still take the information with a grain of salt.

According to Daily Gaming Report, citing anonymous sources, the nextAssassin’s Creedgame will indeed be about Vikings. It will reportedly be titledAssassin’s Creed Ragnarok, which isn’t the first time that we’ve heard this possible title for the game. Right now, the game is apparently known internally by the codename “Kingdom.

As reported by Daily Gaming Report’s sources,Assassin’s Creed Ragnarokwill be aiming for next-generation consoles, presumably the PlayStation 5 and Project Scarlett. The game is “likely” to continue the more RPG-style of gameplay started byAssassin’s Creed Origins, with the addition of naval combat using traditional Viking ships. The game will supposedly bring back a mechanic fromAssassin’s Creed Brotherhoodas well, letting players recruit NPCs to their cause.

One detail in the “leak” is a bit surprising. It’s rumored thatAssassin’s Creed Ragnarokwill let players visit Asgard itself and “face the gods,” hinting at an even heavier supernatural element in the game than usual. According to the rumors, this will tie in toAssassin’s Creed Ragnarok’s storyof exploring the technologically-advanced people that existed before the events of all the games.

There’s been enough leaks, rumors, and official teases to more or less confirm that thenextAssassin’s Creedgame will be about Vikings, though it’s unclear if fans can trust any of the other information in this leak. As always, we recommend fans take this all with a grain of salt and wait for official information from Ubisoft before they get too excited.

In the meantime, one has to wonder whenAssassin’s Creed Ragnarokwill be revealed to the public. Ubisoft’s E3 2020 press conference seems like the most obvious choice, though maybe if fans are lucky they’ll get a reveal at The Game Awards 2019, which is set to take place on December 12.
