UPDATE 8/14: An Activision spokesperson has debunked the rumors about the game’s price being cheaper than expected.
“As stated in numerous Activision Blizzard quarterly conference calls, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III is a premium release. It will be priced accordingly at $70.”
Original story follows.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3may be released at half price according to a new rumor, but fans shouldn’t get their hopes up. Prior to its reveal, reputable sources claimed that the 2023Call of Dutygame was going to be an expansion forModern Warfare 2instead of a full-fledged release. Activision pushed back against those reports, and it was finally confirmed that the 2023Call of Dutygame would indeed be a full release and adirect sequel to 2022’sModern Warfare 2.
Activision has started pulling the curtain back on the 2023 version ofModern Warfare 3. It recently released a teaser trailer revealingreturning villain Makarov, and it has confirmed that a full reveal for the game will come on August 17. It also confirmed that multiplayer content fromModern Warfare 2will carry over toModern Warfare 3, a first for the franchise. However, this move has called into question the scale of new content coming toModern Warfare 3.

Even thoughCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3is being presented as a full game and not an expansion as was previously reported, it’s possible it will still launch at a lower price point. Twitter user Evan Fox discovered thatModern Warfare 3was being listed at AUD $54.95 on Steam, which roughly translates to USD $36, or about half the price of a brand-newCall of Dutygame. Now, it’s entirely possible that this price is an error or a placeholder. Needless to say, fans shouldn’t get their hopes up. The most likely scenario is that Activision will still sellCall of Duty: Modern Warfare 3at full price. But if the price is not an error or placeholder, it does seem to support the idea thatModern Warfare 3started life as an expansion and will have generally less content than what fans are used to with a new main seriesCoDrelease.
Another theory is that this lower price point will only be for gamers that already ownModern Warfare 2. If so, this would again support theories that the2023Call of Dutygamewas originally meant to be an expansion forModern Warfare 2and will therefore not have as much content as fans would normally expect, justifying the potentially lower price point. Of course, if this price is an error or placeholder, it really doesn’t tellCall of Dutyfans anything about the new game and so it would be best to just wait for official information from Activision.
