Hit Atlus gameShin Megami Tensei 5is about to go multiplatform, according to a new report from a known industry insider. Released as a Switch exclusive in late 2021,Shin Megami Tensei 5was largely lauded by reviewers, but suffered from performance issues that made some fans clamor for a port to a more powerful system.
Atlus historically employed a rather erratic platform strategy which often saw it alternate between Sony and Nintendo exclusives within a single series likePersona. However, that approach started to wane in the years that followed its 2013 acquisition by Sega; over the last half a decade, the studio mostly worked on porting its older titles to more platforms, whereasSoul Hackers 2recently even setthe precedent for a day-one multiplatform release from Atlus.Shin Megami Tensei 5is the studio’s only game launched in the last five years that’s still confined to a single system.

Yet that won’t be the case for much longer, according to known Spanish leaker NWeedle, who took online on June 4 to claim thatShin Megami Tensei 5will “soon” stop being a Switch exclusive. While the leaker hasn’t elaborated on that claim, this isn’t the first time that rumors of anSMT5port emerged online. Back in November 2021, one dataminer discoveredhints ofShin Megami Tensei 5PC and PS4 portsin the game’s files. The Nvidia GeForce Now leak that happened two months prior to that also referenced a PC version of the game.
Finally, this report dovetails with a mid-Marchrumor suggesting Xbox Game Pass is getting four more Atlus games, includingSMT5. And while that particular claim came from an anonymous source who wrongly stated that the PC and Xbox ports ofSMT5will be announced in early May, this newly emerged report holds much more weight, not least because NWeedle has a fairly consistent track record with leaks. Their biggest scoop to date was reporting on the Switch revival ofMetroid Dreadmore than a year before that game was officially announced in mid-2021.
Since then, NWeedle leaked that MercurySteam is planning to release another 2DMetroidgame in 2025, while also stating that a sequel to Moon Studios’Ori and the Will of the Wispsis in development. But unlike those two scoops, the claim thatShin Megami Tensei 5is about to go multiplatform shouldn’t remain up in the air for long. Based on this newly surfaced insight and past reports on the matter, it’s possible that Atlus announces its firstSMT5ports as early as this week, seeing how the June 11 Xbox Games Showcase is just around the corner.
Shin Megami Tensei 5is available now on Nintendo Switch.
