Blizzard first announcedOverwatch 2at BlizzCon in November of 2019 with an impressive cinematic that set the stage for the story, while also revealing some of the new game modes and other upgrades fans can expect from the game. Unfortunately, not a lot ofOverwatch 2information has come to light since the game’s announcement, leaving fans in the dark when it comes to Blizzard’s popular hero-shooter franchise.
While Blizzard has largely kept quiet aboutOverwatch 2since the reveal trailer, fans are expecting a big reveal next month at BlizzCon. BlizzCon 2021 is scheduled to take place from February 19 to 20, and it’s there where fans expect to seeOverwatch 2again. Some fans have optimistically thought that anOverwatch 2release datecould even be revealed at BlizzCon 2021, but those fans may want to keep their expectations in check.

A provenOverwatchleakernamed Metro recently spoke aboutOverwatch 2in a Twitch stream. “I’ve heard that they’re really f***ing slow and they’re delaying it,” Metro said in response to a question from his Twitch chat. “From what I heard, it doesn’t sound good at all. It sounds like it’s very far off.” Assuming Metro’s information is correct, it seems unlikely that anOverwatch 2release date is in the cards for BlizzCon.
As for what fans can expect to see fromOverwatch 2at BlizzCon 2021, Metro suggested that they may get “a few” new hero announcements at the show, and stressed that no new heroes are coming to the baseOverwatchuntilOW2’s launch. As far as new heroes go, the only one officially announced by Blizzard isSojourn, who was revealed alongsideOverwatch 2at BlizzCon in November 2019.
While Metro has accurately leakedOverwatchinformation in the past, they have also been incorrect about things as well, so fans should take this information with a grain of salt. As some may recall, Metro had previously claimed thatOverwatch 1would be scrapped forOverwatch 2, with the sequel simply overtaking the original game like an update. Blizzard since pushed back against those claims, revealingOverwatch 2to be its own release while sharing PvP with the original game. However, it’s also been said that, at some point,OverwatchandOverwatch 2could very well merge together to become a single product, so perhaps that is what Metro was referring to with those initial claims.
So while Metro’s claim thatOverwatch 2development is going slow could very well be true, fans shouldn’t get too anxious until they learn more from Blizzard in an official capacity.Overwatch 2is still expected to be featured atBlizzCon 2021in February, so anyone curious should be sure to tune in to the show.
