Summary
Respawn Entertainment, the developers of theTitanfallfranchise and its popular battle royale spinoffApex Legends, may be gearing up to finally announceTitanfall 3this month. The acclaimed studio has just shipped itslatestStar WarsblockbusterJedi: Survivorearlier this year. While the Souls-inspired sequel launched with poor performance and technical issues, it was praised for its superb storytelling and character development. Respawn has just recently made significant strides in patching the game up on PC.
Titanfallhas always had a troubled history despite its glowing reputation. The original, a multiplayer-only Xbox One exclusive, struggled to find an audience when it launched in early 2014. A game releasing without a single-player component was not a normalized occurrence in the industry at the time. That, combined with launching exclusively on the less-than favorable Xbox One, and the originalTitanfallwas considered by many to have failed despite its buttery smooth first-person mech gameplay. 2016 saw its multiplatform, single-player-focused sequel launch in a Fall season sandwiched betweenbest-sellingCall of Duty: Infinite Warfarebundled withModern Warfare Remastered, and EA’s very ownBattlefield 1.Thus, due to a different set of circumstances,Titanfall 2struggled to find its foothold in the realm of first-person shooters, despite its unique mech gameplay and celebrated story campaign.

Despite all this, and possibly thanks in part to the huge success ofApex Legends, fans are still clamoring for the third installment in Respawn’s mech-focused first-person shooter franchise. An unofficialteaser trailer for what clearly seems likeTitanfall 3has surfaced online, being posted to Reddit and Twitter by JHaleStorm. The teaser features Respawn’s logo and the words “Worldwide Reveal” inTitanfall’s title font with a reveal date of October 27. All the text fades away with only the “3” in 2023 remaining. Of course, as there hasn’t been official word from EA or Respawn the trailer’s authenticity should be taken with a grain of salt.
WithStar Wars Jedi: Survivorout the door, it seems reasonable for work onTitanfall 3to have already begun. Respawn Entertainment has been routinely denying the possibility ofTitanfall 3for several years at this point with its focus having shifted to runningApex Legendsand making incredibly well-receivedStar Warsgames. However, despiteTitanfall’s struggles of the past, the demand for a third installment is certainly alive and quite loud. With a thirdStar Wars Jedititle having been recently confirmed, it’s likely far enough out forTitanfall 3to have its time in the sun.
If this teaser is legitimate it would mean that Respawn would have to be gearing up to officially drop it in the coming days or weeks, as thesuggested reveal ofTitanfall 3on October 27 is just around the corner.Titanfall 3may still be a few years away despite this potential reveal happening just a few months afterJedi: Survivor’s launch. As the authenticity of the teaser is unknown,Titanfallfans should keep an eye on EA and Respawn’s social media in the following days in the event that it’s legitimate.
