ASkyrimplayer posted a hilarious video of them getting slowly beaten to death by the Greybeards. Typically, the player learns how to use dragon shouts from the Greybeards inSkyrim, but if they are attacked, they will defend themselves.

Skyrim’s main storyline revolves around saving the world from resurrected dragons that intend to conquer Tamriel, and the Greybeards are a key part of that story. After the Dragonborn discovers that they have the power to use dragon shouts, they are instructed to journey toSkyrim’s High Hrothgarto learn more about their newfound powers from the reclusive Greybeards. The members of this ancient order are the only people who are able to teach the player how to properly use the dragon shouts and where to find more words of power.

The video was posted to theSkyrimsubreddit by player SnepALaCarte, and shows 30 seconds of their character being slowly andhilariously killed by the Greybeards. The clip starts mid-fight, with three Greybeards battering SnepALaCarte with their fists, then freezing them with a shout. The player falls to the ground frozen in a block of ice as the ancient hermits continue to beat them. After the shout wears off, SnepALaCarte gets back up and is almost immediately frozen again. This pattern repeats more or less for the entire extent of the 30-second clip, but in the last few seconds the Greybeards decide to mix things up with a few Fire Breath shouts to finish SnepALaCarte off.

Instances like this are not uncommon inSkyrim, since NPCs will tend to attack the player for even minor infractions, like accidentally punching an NPC or, famously, a chicken. In those cases, the town guard, and often nearby civilians, will gang up and try to kill the player character. Oneplayer was even attacked for throwing a tomato with telekinesis. According to SnepALaCarte, the Greybeards took offense when their dog accidentally hit the controller and used a dragon shout on one of the nearby NPCs, triggering the beatdown.

DespiteSkyrim’s age, there’s still a massive fanbase for the game, and clips like this make it easy to see why. The game’s expansive open world and in-depth RPG mechanics are a huge part of that, but the unexpected interactions with NPCs are another big factor. There are plenty ofhilarious clips fromSkyrim, and withElder Scrolls 6still lacking a hard release date, it’s likely that players will continue to playSkyrimand create more funny moments for the community to enjoy.
