This creation was originally released in 2018 and serves to improve the encumbrance system ofSkyrim. Not only do they increase carry weight, some also have additional effects that come in handy for most playstyles, and have simple, customizable designs to suit the rest of a character’s appearance.
Updated June 15, 2025 by Erik Petrovich: The Skyrim Anniversary Edition Backpack creation, also available in Special Edition via the Creation Club, is one of the game’s most useful. Some consider it game-breaking thanks to the amount of storage it gives, and some of the minor buffs can turn a good build into an overpowered one. Adventurers Backpacks are the only Skyrim backpacks, and there aren’t any ways to increase carry weight in the base game aside from enchanting and potions. If you’re tired of running back and forth from cities when your inventory fills up after each dungeon, consider getting one of these.

What Are Adventurer’s Backpacks?
Adventurer’s Backpacks are new equippable items players can get with the installation of eitherAnniversary Editionor the individual Creation Club element for standaloneSpecial Edition. These greatly expand a player’s maximum carry weight, making themnear-essential forSkyrimSurvival mode, but they also come with unique effects.

The Adventurer Backpack, Hunter Backpack, Mage Backpack, and Thief Backpack all confer a minor buff to their wearer. They can be crafted or bought, and they aren’t too expensive to make or purchase so players can easily get one within the first hour of the game.
Types of Adventurer’s Backpacks
There are 16 types of Adventurer’s Backpacksincluded with this creation, evenly split between standard backpacks and backpacks with additional special buffs and abilities. While each improves a player’s carrying capacity by a huge 75 points (just over a 25% improvement on base stats), the Mage, Hunter, Thief, and eponymous Adventurer backpack offer something else.

Each backpack also has a version available with a Bedroll, though this appears to just be a cosmetic change as it does not affect where players get the Well-Rested bonus. Be sure to choose the right backpack for you, and don’t be afraid to spend a little more to get those extra bonuses (if you plan to make use of them at all).
How To Get A Backpack In Skyrim
Adventurer’s Backpacks are found in two distinct places inSkyrim: at vendors and through crafting. They don’t cost a lot to purchase and don’t require any complex crafting materials to craft, so just about every player will be able to acquire one sooner than later.
Keep an eye out in dungeon loot, like on bodies and in treasure chests, because there is also a small chance for them to spawn out in the world. If you’re especially lucky, you’ll find the exact Backpack you need, removing the need to buy or craft one entirely.

Buying and Finding Backpacks
Backpacks can be bought from just about any general vendor, like Belethor in Whiterun or Lucan Valerius in Riverwood. Thespecial backpackswith additional effects each cost80 Gold(with or without the Bedroll), while thenormal versions run anywhere from 40 Gold to 50 Goldmaximum – buying a Backpack won’t break the bank. They can also be found as ground loot.
How to Craft a Backpack
Crafting a backpack is almost as easy as buying one, and their cheap resource costs make them a good thing to craft early on for some cash flow. Each of thenormal Backpacks costs1 Corundum and 3 Leather(4 Leatherfor the Bedroll version), while eachspecial Backpack costs 1 Corundum and 4 Leather(5 Leatherfor the Bedroll version).
