Sonic Frontiers, Sonic Team’s latest release, will be receiving a free update that adds a Christmas-themed costume this month.Sonic Frontiersis the latest 3D mainlineSonicgame from Sonic Team, taking the iconic blue hedgehog into a new environment with the usage of a new gameplay style that the developers have called “open-zone” as opposed to open-world. Despite the game boasting an impressive amount of content already, Sega and Sonic Team are looking to support it with a series offree DLC updates forSonic Frontiersthroughout 2023.
Sega stated that these free updates have already started with the release of the Rathalos and Felyne Rathalos crossover costumes.Sonic Frontiers' roadmap for 2023was also announced earlier this week, which included a more concrete image of this upcoming content. This includes QOL updates, challenges, and even more. Fans will also get one last update before the year closes out, giving a Christmas-themed costume in late December.

As announced on the official Twitter account,Sonic Frontierswill be getting a Christmas-themed costume, known as the Holiday Cheer Suit to celebrate the aforementioned holiday. This costume will be added to the game on December 21, and like the other upcoming updates, will be released for free. This costume dresses the blue hedgehog in the same garb as Santa Claus, complete with a jacket and tiny hat. The photo accompanying it is also appropriately on Chaos Island, the only island in the game that has a snowy mountain range.
Notably, this isn’t the first time that theSonicfranchise has done holiday-themed celebrations. There have been the occasional piece of official art from Sonic Channel that has characters like Blaze the Cat or Silver the Hedgehog dressed for the holidays, but some have noted the last time a mainlineSonicgame had holiday-themed content was in the originalSonic Adventurefor the Dreamcast. That game had Christmas-themed DLC that added things like a Christmas tree and even changed the music if the player interacted with it.
Aside from this update, fans have been excited about the content that will be coming to the game next year. One of the most anticipated parts of this new content is within its third update. It promisesnew playable characters inSonic Frontiers, with a brand-new story that will be included to boot. Many fans are speculating this update will contain playable versions of Tails, Amy, and Knuckles. Some are also speculating what role that Sage will play in this new story, considering how she is also front and center on the roadmap’s image.
