Space Forcewill return to Netflix on July 14, 2025. Creators Steve Carell and Greg Daniels initially planned take a comedic look at an aspect of the Donald Trump administration through a satirical lens, hence the name Space Force, which comes from a branch of the United States military that the former President established in 2018. Carrell and Daniels previously worked together onThe Officeand hoped to create a similar comedic atmosphere with this new series. The plot will more than likely continue along the same lines they had planned initially, but it may tap into some of the realities present in society today. Some significant time has passed since the first season’s premiere in 2020, and a lot has happened throughout that period, which the series has possibly been able to draw from for inspiration. However, until a trailer arrives to confirm the plot’s direction, the poster provided by the series' official Twitter page will have to hold audiences over.
But, will the secondseason ofSpace Forcefair better than the first? The series was met with pretty mixed reviews upon its initial release, earning a 39% Rotten Tomatoes rating for its uneven comedic balance. Audiences may have entered in with the notion that the narrative would mirrorThe Officesince the two individuals who were heavily involved in the hit show are at the helm. The reality, however, was that the show had a different tone, which left something feeling differently on the emotional spectrum. Despite its unbalanced reception, Netflix gave that series the green light for another season, which may hint towards the platform’s belief that things can only get better. The creative revamp sees the likes of Norm Hiscock joining the team, who wrote and produced the highly acclaimed seriesParks and Recreation. Jimmy O. Yang, who plays Dr. Chan Kaifang in the series, has also been added to the show’s writing staff.
The future ofSpace Forceseems to hover on the optimism of a successful second season, but the streaming platform has had its fair share of series continue despite uneven reviews. Production of the series moved from Los Angeles to Vancouver due to budgetary cuts, but it doesn’t mean that Carell and his team can’t create a solid and amusing product. Creatively the series appears to be stepping up its game, but only time will tell if the efforts will pay off in the end. Carell will return as the decorated General Mark Naird with John Malkovich, Ben Schwartz, Tawny Newsome, Diana Silvers, Jimmy O. Yang, and Don Lake all reprising their roles from the previous season.
