This article has SPOILERS for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
The Insomniac version of Peter Parker might not be as finished with crime-fighting as the end ofMarvel’s Spider-Man 2seemed to indicate, at least not according to Yuri Lowenthal. The latest installment of Insomniac’s well-receivedMarvel’s Spider-Manseries put Peter through even more emotional turmoil than ever, as he was forced to confront his own darker impulses while under the influence of the alien Symbiote - and then his childhood friend Harry Osborn after he becomes the monstrous Venom. Meanwhile, his fellow wall-crawler Miles Morales came into his own inSpider-Man 2, bringing Peter back from the brink and helping fend off Venom’s Symbiote invasion.

At the very end ofMarvel’s Spider-Man 2, Peter decides to take a break from being a superhero to focus on building his life with Mary Jane, with Miles assuring him that he can protect New York by himself for as long as Peter needs him to. Some players interpreted this as Peter retiring as Spider-Man for good, with Insomniac stating thatMiles would be the primary web-slingerof its Marvel games going forward. This proved to be as controversial as Miles’sSpider-Man 2endgame Evolved Suit, especially with the final cutscenes of the last game hinting that Peter will face the Green Goblin in the eventualSpider-Man 3.
Peter Parker actor Yuri Lowenthal recently weighed in on the idea of his character hanging up his webs for good afterSpider-Man 2during an interview withVariety. When the topic was brought up, Lowenthal stated that he doesn’t believePeter will retire from Spider-Man completely- as much as he would like to live a normal life and let Miles deal with dangerous supervillains on a daily basis. “While I think that Peter would love to believe that he can just turn it off and not be Spider-Man anymore and live a completely normal life,” Lowenthal said, “I don’t think that’s what’s going to happen now.”

Peter Parker’s Story Will Likely Conclude In Marvel’s Spider-Man 3
Yuri Lowenthal went on to note that he hasn’t read the script for any futureSpider-Mangames, and he doesn’t know what Insomniac’s plans are going forward any more than the average player. He also feels thatSpider-Man 2left Peter on an interesting noteby placing his full trust in Miles to carry on the duties of Marvel’s signature web-slinging superhero while he takes a much-needed break. Finally, Lowenthal pointed out that this isn’t the first time his version of Peter Parker took a brief sabbatical, as he and Mary Jane went on vacation in Symkaria during the events ofSpider-Man: Miles Morales.
“While I think that Peter would love to believe that he can just turn it off and not be Spider-Man anymore and live a completely normal life, I don’t think that’s what’s going to happen now.”

Peter Parker eventually returned to resume his superhero duties in time forSpider-Man 2, and it looks like history will repeat itself in thealready-confirmedMarvel’s Spider-Man 3. Yuri Lowenthal seems to think so, and this is welcome news for fans of his performance as Peter in the previousSpider-Mangames. While these fans are probably going to have to wait a long time to see the next chapter in Peter’s story, they will be able to relive his latest adventure whenMarvel’s Spider-Man 2’s long-awaited New Game Plus upgrade is finally added on March 7.
