Speaking about the remake ofKnights of the Old Republic, the lead producer for the game, Ryan Treadwell, described the company’s goal to build a version of the game for new and returning fans to play on next-gen consoles. In order to achieve this vision, the developers are utilizing “the latest tech” to improve the visuals. According to the producer, the aim of the project is to present the worlds of the game in high fidelity while maintaining the essence of the original art.

Treadwell went on to note the importance of the game’s narrative in the production process, emphasizing that the developers want to “honor” that pivotal part of the gameplay experience. As the creators at Aspyr Media attempt to balance classic elements alongside new innovations, the company has brought onboard veterans from the RPG genre including some from the originalKnights of the Old Republic. Treadwell also revealed that the process to remake the game was part of a collaboration with Lucasfilm Games and Sony.
When speaking about the challenge of remaking the classic game, Treadwell noted the experience the team at Aspyr had accumulated working with variousStar Warsproperties. Some of the past games the company helped upgrade to modern consoles includeStar Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast,Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy,Star Wars: Episode I – Racer, andStar Wars: Republic Commando.
These details on the development of the project come after theKnight’s of the Old Republicremake was revealedin a trailer at the PlayStation Showcase 2021. During the short teaser, fans received a glimpse of Darth Revan as he ignites a red lightsaber. In addition to this teaser trailer, players learned that the game will be a PS5 exclusive at launch.
This was just one announcement from the PlayStation Showcase 2021. Sony unveiled a number of new games during the presentation such as anewWolverinegame developed by Insomniac Games. In addition, fans received a first look at the long speculatedGod of War: Ragnarok.
