Summary

Still set for an August 30 release,Star Wars Outlawsis shaping up very nicely. That is just as long as the recent showcase is indicative of the final product. Based on its new trailer, it seems as thoughStar Wars Outlawsis using a lot of the usual Ubisoft open-world formula tropes but is adding plenty ofStar Warsflair to them, along with a great deal of immersive world-building.Star Wars Outlaws' ‘Expert’ system is a great example of that.

Star Wars Outlaws' Expert System Explained

Experts Act as In-Universe Skill Trees

InStar Wars Outlaws, players will be able to seek out an array of different Experts who each specialize in a uniqueStar Wars-y field. Once these Experts have been recruited, they’ll give players access to a new branch of upgrades and skills themed around their specialty. In therecentStar Wars Outlawsgameplay trailer, fans got a brief look at this Expert system in action.

The trailer briefly showed the Bartender Expert and a few of his associated upgrades. The Bartender Expert has six upgrades in total, and this trailer detailed three of those, the first being the ability to chain together melee attacks using the “Cantina Brawling” perk, and the second being the ability to lockpick certain doors and containers. The final Bartender upgrade shown in the trailer was the Fast-Talk perk, which would allowprotagonist Kay Vessto briefly stall an alerted enemy. This perk was unavailable to Vess in the trailer and would require the player to defeat five enemies with melee attacks and take down three distracted guards to unlock.

A big focus of the recentStar Wars Outlawstrailer was Kay Vess' journey to find the Gunslinger Expert. Upon recruiting them, the player has access to aRed Dead RedemptionDead-Eye-like abilitythat sees them execute multiple enemies in one quick burst of blaster fire. A few other Experts were teased during this gameplay reveal, including a group of Jawas that can fit Kay Vess' ship with new parts, and an Expert who can upgrade her speeder.

Experts Come With Their Own Story Quests

Recruiting Experts doesn’t seem like it’ll be an easy task inStar Wars Outlaws. In this gameplay reveal, the player had to go on a pretty lengthy journey to discover the identity of the Gunslinger, let alone recruit them. The player had to venture out to theMos Eisley Cantina, travel out to the wastelands of the desert planet, infiltrate a pirate camp, and return to the city to speak with the Gunslinger. Each Expert will likely come with their own unique questline, and that’s a great way to makeStar Wars Outlaws' skill trees feel a bit more immersive and rewarding. It seems like a lot ofStar Wars Outlawswill be about the journey as well as the destination, and that’s exactly what aStar Warsopen-world game should offer.
