The next bigStar Warsseries just got one step closer to its grand debut. With bothObi-WanandAndorinching toward their own premieres, not to mention the upcoming 3rd season ofThe Mandalorian, it’s not like fans are starving for content. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t always thirsty for more, and this one is special.

Ahsoka, the highly-anticipated live-action series starring Rosario Dawson as the titular togruta former Jedi first seen inStar Wars: The Clone Wars, has officially begun production. The news comes from Disney+ itself, who shared a seemingly standard behind-the-scenes picture of a director’s chair emblazoned with the show’s stylized title. But those who’ve kept up withStar Warsin recent years know full well what that hat dangling off the side means.

The photo shows what appears to be the chair soon to be occupied byDave Filoni, the Executive Creative Director at Lucasfilmand creative mind behind much ofStar Wars' most well-received entries over the past decade and beyond. While Filoni’s directorial and writing abilities speak for themselves, his other signature styling is the cowboy hat that rarely leaves his head. Fans who have followed his work fromThe Clone Warsall the way toThe Mandalorianwill no doubt be champing at the bit to see what he comes up with this time.

Ahsokastars Dawson as Ahsoka Tano, who made her debut nearly 15 years ago on theClone Warsanimated series. Voiced by Ashley Eckstein in all of her animated appearances, Ahsoka started out as an enthusiastic young Jedi padawanunder the guidance of Anakin Skywalker himself(who is also set to show up in bothAhsokaandObi-Wan, played once again by Hayden Christensen). But as the series went on, she eventually became jaded with the Jedi order’s politics and struck out on her own.

Still serving the light side of the force, she would go on to make appearances in other shows likeStar Wars RebelsandThe Mandalorian, though she still featured prominently in the series that gave her a start. Her current goal during the time her series will take place is to find Grand Admiral Thrawn, who disappeared along with series lead Ezra Bridger in the finale toRebels. That quest suggests thatAhsokamay feature the live-action debuts of Ezra and Thrawn along withRebelscharacter Sabine Wren, who was recently confirmed to appear in the seriesportrayed by Natasha Liu Bordizzo.

Many fans will remember Ahsoka’s part in the recent final season ofThe Clone Wars, which many consider to be one of the franchise’s highest points. Between that and her hype-worthy move to live-action onThe MandalorianandThe Book of Boba Fett, it’s no surprise that she now has her own show officially starting production. Fully aware of her importance to the fans,Filoni is putting a lot of thought intoAhsoka’s writing process. So there’s clearly a lot to look forward to here.

Ahsokais now in production but has yet to receive a release date.
