“Missed the Mark” isthe second part of the Missed missionsinStarfield. The first mission involves tracking down a missing courier for a Reliant Medical executive in Gagarin Landing, and the second mission focuses on tracking down a missing executive who disappeared just after the courier did.
Starfieldplayers will start this mission automatically once they complete “Missed Connections” and agree to continue helping Helena Strickland. Players may wonder about the ethics of placing a tracker on an executive’s personal spacecraft, but there’s no denying the results: because of it, Helena knows that Bonifac Maksimov is on Hawley, a moon of Olivas in the Alpha Centauri system.

Where to Find Bonifac Maksimov
The destination on Hawley is a “Reclaimed Outpost.” This facility isone of the standard designs players will findas they randomly explore planets. The enemies in the outpost are Ecliptic Mercenaries, and their levels are in the expected range for Alpha Centauri.
This facility consists of two large rooms, and the objective marker points to a second-floor office connected to the first room. Bonifac is in here, tied up and next to the window. Players will automatically free Bonifac when they try to talk to him, and he’ll explain what happened: a man named Maldonado killed the courier, stole the data, and then used Bonifac’s ship (with Bonifac inside) to frame the executive.

Maldonado is still in the facility and should still have the stolen data, so the mission continues. Bonifac will insist on joining the player, and he has a pistol he can use to defend himself. He can’t take much damage, but he should stay out of the way during fights against Ecliptic in the second large chamber. Maldonado is in one of the side rooms on the lower floor.
Should You Betray Bonifac?
When players find and confront Maldonado, he admits to everything Bonifac said. However, he has a deal for the player: if they let him kill Bonifac and escape with the data,he’ll give them 4,000 creditson the spot. Players can then return to Helena with the bad news to get 100 XP and a small credit reward that varies depending on the player’s level.
If players refuse, they’ll have to kill Maldonado. Unlike Bonifac, he has a decent level for Alpha Centauri, but players who got through the Ecliptic goons should have no real trouble taking him down. The data is on his body, and it’s called “Private: Reliant Medical.” Bonifacwill take his own ship back to Gagarin, so head back to Helena to deliver the good news. The reward for this path is 100 XP and an extra 5,000 credits over the other path’s reward. So at least in this case, it really pays to be the good guy.
