Among the newer and more popular games in esports,Apex Legendshas already established a massive global player base. However, similar to otherbattle royale video games,Apex Legendshas occasional bugs, with one in particular proving costly for a team in a recent Japanese tournament.

First making its debut in the esports scene with the Apex Legends Global Series (ALGS) in early 2020,Apex Legendshas remained popular with its fast-paced gameplay and additional playable characters, or “legends.” Unfortunately, not all the legends are popular in the competitive scene, and an unexpected glitch with the Season 6 legend Rampart has potentially doomed her to be even less likely to appear in future tournaments.

Apex Legends player Maro Maro experienced an incredibly unfortunate glitch with Rampart’s turrets during a Japanese tournament. While dismounting from a Rampart turret after shooting at enemy players, Maro Maro, who was playing asSeason 1 legend Caustic, was immediately teleported through the floor. They were then quickly swarmed by another enemy team that had been camping the lower level, and they were downed instantly. Many fans and players have responded to the glitch, saying that Rampart may never be used in competitive play again after proving to be a potential liability to a team’s success. Rampart already had limited selection inApex Legendstournaments due to the game’s current meta, but this particular glitch seems to have fans even more weary of her use.

While many fans are weary of the glitch reoccurring, some have been looking for a simple solution and others have even made lighthearted jokes towards the likely singular glitch. A few have pointed out how dismounting a Rampart turret at an odd angle led to the unfortunate ground clipping. Others have teased that it was an intentionalsneak peek at a new Apex legendthat can travel underground.

With such a wide variety of games being played at a competitive esports level, some team organizations have to pick and choose which scenes to be a part of. When game-breaking glitches can cost teams a match or even a tournament, many bigger organizations can see this as a potential reason to pull out of that particular scene. However, this should not be the case with thisApex Legendsglitch. While it was unfortunate - even more so as it was during a tournament - it appears to be a one-off bug that is unlikely to occur again. With the ALGS 2023 Championship starting soon, game developer Respawn Entertainmentwill need to fix this bug quickly and ensure that there are no major issues during the tournament that may cause big name organizations to pull out of theApex Legendsesports scene. For now,Apex Legendsis likely to remain incredibly popular at the casual and competitive level, in spite of the occasional glitch.

Apex Legendsis available now on Android, iOS, PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
