Since the release ofPokemon Legends: Arceusearlier this year, players have discovered several bugs and unexpected moments ranging from battles with trees to Spheal’s rolling in weird ways. OnePokemon Legends: Arceusplayer has encountered a Starly that launched itself into the sky prior to a battle and got stuck there.

Reddit user Handy-soap recently shared a clip of theirPokemon Legends: Arceusadventure in which they’re exploring theCrimson Mirelandsas they happen upon an unsuspecting Starly. Although Pokemon are known for using various stat-boosting maneuvers to avoid attacks, this Starly tries to avoid battle by flying to the sky and staying there. After watching the brief battle initiating cutscene with the Starly flying to the sky, thePokemon Legends: Arceusplayer has to take many steps away just to see how high the Flying-type Pokemon has gone.

Handy-soap’sPokemon Legends: Arceusclip begins with the Pokemon trainer approaching a Starly and summoning a Flareon, one of the many availableEeveelutionsinPokemon Legends: Arceus. Perhaps because of the player tossing their Flareon’s Poke Ball at the feet of the wild Starly, the bird soars upward and continues beyond the short battle intro. As a result, Starly is left fluttering ominously several meters above the Flareon, which is still able to attack the wild Pokemon despite the distance between them on the battlefield.

ThePokemon Legends: Arceusdialogue hilariously states thatStarlyis keeping its guard up while the battle proceeds and the trainer tries to figure out how to fight the looming Flying-type. ThePokemon Legends: Arceusplayer then instructs their Flareon to use Flamethrower, and the Fire attack miraculously connects with the Starly way above the battlefield after a long pause, causing the wild Pokemon to faint. ThePokemon Legends: Arceusvideo ends with the Pokemon on the trainers' team sharing experience from the defeated Starly as if nothing unusual occurred.

Although this is an accurate representation of somePokemonanimebattles, thePokemon Legends: ArceusStarly doesn’t typically launch itself so high. Pokemon have been able to use the Fly move to rise above attack for one round since Gen 1, but Starly is notably not using Fly in Handy-soap’sPokemon Legends: Arceusclip as it’s still vulnerable to attacks. While it’s currently unclear what caused the Starly to react so strangely inPokemon Legends: Arceus, players may be able to replicate the experience with a similarly well-timed throw.

Pokemon Legends: Arceusis available now for Nintendo Switch.
