Summary
Further details regarding the Snyderverse and its DCEU equivalent emerge following the franchise’s abrupt end, asSuicide Squaddirector David Ayer echoes Zack Snyder’s previous notions that uncover the truth behind the DCEU mythology.
Recently, Jay Oliva revealed details onwhat would have been the DCEUFlashpointadaptationthat uncovered the secret villain of the Snyderverse, which was designed to reboot the franchise. Not only did dedicated fans expect this to have been the case early on from small details teased inBatman v Superman, but another popular fan theory, based on the concept art that connectsSuicide SquadtoZack Snyder’s Justice League, is now out in the open. However, this concept art does more than offer an exciting glimpse into howSuicide Squadwas initially planned to set upJustice League. It also unlocks Pandora’s box into the basis of DC mythology.

Duringthe Q&A of Snyder’s Full Circle event, a fan referenced the open pod from the Kryptonian scout ship inMan of Steel, previously teased by the director to have been used by Supergirl, and asked if he was planning to incorporate her into his plans for the franchise. One of Snyder’s colleagues can be heard saying, “tell the real story that broke the studio at the time,” prompting the director to divulge that not only was Ares responsible for the ship crashing on Earth, but that Zeus and Ares were initially meant to be Kryptonian, thus partly responsible for Wonder Woman’s powers. Now, Ayer expands on this sentiment with his plans that connect Enchantress and her brother Incubus to Apokolips.
Concept art for Enchantress and Incubus showcased the villains' original designs beforeWarner Bros. meddled with Ayer’sSuicide Squad, and they look similar to Apokolips characters Desaad and Steppenwolf in concept art andZack Snyder’s Justice League.Ayer stated that Enchantress is an alien from ancient times while confirming a fan theory that hypothesized Enchantress being Apokoliptian, or at least descendent of, in the same way, that Zeus and Ares were possibly Kryptonian. According to Snyder at Full Circle, this concept was meant as a scientific explanation for the DCEU rather than having to resort to magic as a pillar of its mythology. Although Ayer also admits that the Ares and Zeus Kryptonian concept was scrapped, it may not be far off since, in a sense, Kryptonians could be considered descendants of the Old Gods.
While the franchise may be rebooting, that does not mean there aren’t still options to return to that original idea in the wake of the DCEU. There ishope that Ayer’sSuicide Squadcut will release, at least if Gunn has anything to say about it. Hopefully, if Ayer is allowed additional photography or a VFX budget like Snyder was withZack Snyder’s Justice League, then perhaps, like Steppenwolf, the designs of Enchantress and Incubus can be changed to reflect the original concept art connecting the villains ofSuicide Squadto Apokolips, especially since in the originalSuicide Squadconcept Enchantress was being controlled by a Mother Box to open a portal to Apokolips.
Suicide Squadis available on MAX.
