Last month, Bandai Namco announced a new boxed version for its premier fighting gameTekken 7, titledTekken 7 Legendary Edition, for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. However, it was only made available at select European retailers and, to some fans’ umbrage, didn’t even include all the DLC characters. Now, the publisher has revealed an additional two special editions of the game that are available for purchase right now, albeit as digital releases only.
The first one is calledTekken 7 Originals Editionand aside from the base game and the frame data display feature that came with Season 3, includes 12 DLC character packs. Basically, the only other additional content it comes with are the post-launch characters who originate fromtheTekkenseries: Eliza, Anna Williams, Lei Wulong, Craig Marduk, Armor King, Julia Chang, Zafina, Ganryu, Leroy Smith, Fahkumran, Kunimitsu (specifically the second Kunimitsu), and Lidia Sobieska, the final DLC character added to the game back in March.

This completely omits all the guest star playable characters, namely Noctis fromFinal Fantasy 15, Geese Howard fromFatal Fury, and Neegan fromThe Walking Dead. The one exception is Street Fighter’s Akuma, but that’s because he’s part ofTekken 7’s base roster and even plays an important role in the story mode.Tekken 7 Originals Editioncan be downloaded for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms for $99.99.
The second edition is calledTekken 7 Definitive Editionand, as the moniker suggests, comes with the base game and all four season passes. So, customers will be getting every DLC character (including Eliza, who was initially a pre-order bonus), the season passes’ costumes and customization items, extra stages, and the Ultimate Tekken Bowl mode. For anyone unfamiliar with it, it’s basically a bowling minigame. Naturally, it’s the more expensive of the two editions, costing $119.99.
While there has technically been no official confirmation, the release of these two editions does seem to suggest thatTekken 7’s post-launch support is over. Or, at the very least, the game won’t be receiving any additional content. Plans could change, but it’s likely that Bandai Namco is focusing its efforts onTekken 8.
Tekken 8hasn’t been outright confirmed either, but it’s a safe guarantee considering how successfulTekken 7was. In April of this year, Bandai Namco revealed that the game hadshipped over 7 million copies worldwide, making it the third best-selling entry in the series. It comes behindTekken 5, which reached 8.2 million sales, andTekken 3, which reached 8.5 million.
Tekken 7is available on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
