Tekken 8is the much-awaited latest entry in the popular decades-old fighting franchise. The newTekken 8update mainly brings therecently announced and somewhat controversial Tekken Shop, which had garnered quite a bit of backlash for introducing microtransactions. The Shop items include elements from legacy character costumes, avatar skins, and new items such as the UT collaboration shirts from clothing brand Uniqlo that celebrate the game’s 30th anniversary. Both free and paid items will be available to purchase at the Tekken Shop, and players will need to buy Tekken Coins for the latter.

Meanwhile, the newTekken 8update also addresses cheating in multiplayer. High-ranking players who have been reported many times and confirmed by the team to have cheated were taken out of the leaderboard and had their ranks reset to Beginner. However, recently discussed plans to deal with rage quitters inTekken 8have not yet been implemented, so players will have to deal with those for a little longer.

Other fixes in the new update include various small bugs in the Arcade Quest and Tekken Ball modes. It’s also worth noting that any replay data recorded prior to Patch 1.02.01 will either be deleted or unplayable. There’s also a bit of a long list of balance changes across specific characters and general moves and modes. These minor fixes, while unassuming on paper, may be interesting, as even small changes could lead to notable shifts in character gameplay rankings in the competitive scene.

All things considered, while Patch 1.02.01 introduces a notable feature toTekken 8, it’s still a relatively small update to the game. Fans who might have been waiting for a splashy change, such as new characters, will have to wait some more as it’s early in the game’s life cycle. The first confirmedTekken 8DLC character Eddy Gordowill likely release in March or April 2024, after which future additions will drop every quarter.
