Massive Entertainment’sTom Clancy’s The Division 2will see a slew of new content and quality of life updates, but the studio shared some unfortunate news regarding next-gen upgrades and future content.

While further development forThe Division 2originally concluded with the season 4 storyline, Massive is now on track to continue supporting the game with new content. However, the studio currently has no plans to give the game a next-gen upgrade, cross-progression, or add a survival game mode.

When asked about whereThe Division2series is headed or what to expect, Massive creative director Yannick Banchereau took to Twitter to dispel any myths. The Division 2is playable on next-gen platforms, but Banchereau clarified that the studio has no plans to give the game a next-gen visual upgrade. Furthermore, when discussinghowThe Division 2handles character saves, Banchereau explains that their databases cannot be transferred over between platforms and doing so is “a huge amount of work.” Players also have been wanting an answer on whether a Survival mode will appear in the game, and Banchereau claimed that “[he] will consider bringing back Survival the day [he’s] 100% confident [they] can deliver something better than the original.”

In 2016, Massive released theSurvival game mode forThe Divisionwhere players brace the harsh weather conditions, collect loot, and extract from the city before a virus kills the players. Players loved this mode for its tense survival action with a looter-shooter twist. The next-gen versions ofThe Division 2, while upgraded to run at 60 FPS, did not see an upgrade to its graphical fidelity, so it looks the same as its last-gen counterparts.

As of now,The Division 2players can expect new content but not expect the game to take advantage of the power of the next-gen consoles. How the game looks on the PS4 will look the same as the PS5 besides a frame rate upgrade. However,Ubisoft does have future plans forThe Divisionfranchise.

Even thoughThe Division 2won’t receive an upgrade anytime soon, players can expect new content on the way. Besides the new “Expertise” system, Massive has yet to give precise details on what content players can expect to see. That content can come in the form of new seasons or another new expansion, but players do know that Massive is working on anentirely new game mode forThe Division 2. With a mobile game, novel, and movie in the pipes, this series still has plenty to offer.

Tom Clancy’s The Division 2is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
