This quote comes from Brida and the final episode of the first season. She is with Guthrum and young Ragnar as they question Aethelwold about King Alfred. Aethelwold doesn’t take the questions seriously, so Brida tells him that “not everybody enjoys a fool.” Her stern tone and facial expression were enough of a warning for him to reveal the information he had on the King.

Uhtred ends the third season with this quote. After killing the one responsible for his brother’s death, he gets on his horse and narrates that there’s more war to come between the Saxons and the Danes. While saying this line, he speaks of King Edward.

This quote is interesting and one of the best because, like Uhtred says, a person can only be themselves and not their parents, no matter how hard they try. They must have their own journey and learn from their mistakes. Furthermore, they must remember not to judge someone by where they came from, but for whom they truly are.
7"Courage Is Finding The Will To Overcome Your Fear, Nothing More."
Uhtred says this inspirational line in episode eight of the second season. He says it to Osferth, who admits to being afraid of going into battle when the gang is preparing the boat to leave, intending to retrieve Lady Aethelflaed from the Danes.
This quote is simple, but one of the best from the show since it can apply to just about any situation. Whenever fear is present in someone’s life, they have the option of letting it win or seeking the courage they need to overcome it.
6"Fear Is Within All Of Us. As Is Strength"
King Alfred says this to Father Selbix in episode 4 of the first season.After asking the Danes to leave Wessex, he asks Father Selbix to follow him so they can pray as an excuse to talk to him alone. Father Selbix gets informed of his new quest where he will be used as a hostage for their enemies. When he shows fear after hearing the task, the King reassures him that although fear is common, there is strength in all of them. Therefore, he should be okay to proceed with the plan.

It is normal for people to have fears. Fears will vary from one person to another, but it is important to remember that along with their fear, they also have the strength needed to overcome it buried deep inside them, even if they can’t see it themselves.
5"Fear Can Be Expelled With Knowledge"
King Alfred says this in the third episode of the first season. He meets with his men and explains the benefits of having Uhtred, a Dane, on their side.The Kingsays that Vikings will appear less scary once they have gained some knowledge of their battle techniques and way of thinking through the help of Uhtred.
It is evident to fans why this quote is one of the best in the show since anyone can easily relate to it. Fear is indeed expelled with knowledge.
4"Revenge Will Not Bring You Peace, Only Death"
Father Beocca tells Uhtred this in the fourth episode of season 2 when he and Ragnar decide to make a stop in Loidis. When they arrive, Ragnar leaves with Brida while Father Beocca reminds Uhtred that seeking revenge for the death of his adoptive father won’t bring him peace.

Uhtred says this in the third episode of the first season when he is speakingwith Alfred, the newly appointed King of Wessex.Alfred was suggesting that Uhtred seek a wife in order to show his commitment to the land, become an Aelderman, and lay down some roots.
Unfortunately, Uhtred is more interested in silver and land than finding a wife. After all, Uhtred’s goal is to regain Bebbanburg, not settle down. This quote still rings true in modern society as some rich and powerful men desire wealth and territory above all else.
2"A Country Is Its History, The Sum Of All Its Stories, We Are What Our Fathers Made Us"
This quote comes courtesy of King Alfred in episode 8 of the second season when he tells his men that he has to save his daughter if he wishes to save the dignity of Wessex. He explains that a country is built with its history in mind and that everyone remembers stories of old times. Ifhe leaves his daughter to the Vikings, he will be responsible for her story, which will overshadow the rest and shame the lineage.
This quote basically reminds viewers to be mindful of their present actions as they can heavily impact their future if they are not careful with their decisions and the path that they are taking.

The most iconic quote of the series, “destiny is all,” is uttered by non-other than Uhtred of Bebbanburg himself (played by Alexander Dreymon). Although he says those famous three words at the end of every opening credits scene, it was first heard in the final episode of the first season.
Uhtred was betrayed by his uncle and lost his Kingdom. After being raised by the Danes, he vowed that someday he would return home to seek revenge upon his uncle as it is his destiny to lead Bebbanburg as their King and not him.
