HBO’s series based on the hit video game franchiseThe Last of Usby Sony and Naughty Dog has been steadily adding members to its ensemble of actors portraying well-known characters from the games. Now, it has been announced thatDumbochild actress Nico Parker will be playing Joel’s daughter Sarah, a character who made a lasting impression on many players during the first game’s prologue.
Nico Parker is a relative newcomer to acting, asDumborepresents her first credit as an actress. Parker also starred in three episodes of a Jude Law-starring HBO miniseries calledThe Third Day, and ironically, Parker played the role of a girl named Ellie in that series. Parker also appeared on shows such asThe Late Show with Stephen Colbertduring Disney’s promotional campaign forDumboand she will soon be seen inWarner Bros.‘sReminiscence, which comes to theaters this August.

Details on the series and its storyline are sparse, but it is known that it will be based on the firstLast of Usgame. In that game, the story takes place twenty years after a mutant Cordyceps fungus turns humans into man-eating zombies and the main narrative follows a survivor named Joel, who must smuggle a girl named Ellie out of a quarantine zone due to her being immune to the infection.The Last of Uscreative director Neil DruckmannandChernobylcreator Craig Mazin are both writers as well as executive producers on the series, with Playstation Productions and Sony Pictures Television co-producing the project.
The Mandalorianstar Pedro Pascalhas been announced Joel, with Bella Ramsey playing Ellie, while Gabriel Luna will play Joel’s brother Tommy and Merle Dandridge will reprise her role of Marlene (as she had been the game version’s voice actor). Druckmann has noted that while some scripts forThe Last of Uswill borrow heavily from the games, others will have significant deviations from the source material. Production onThe Last of Usseries is scheduled to begin in July 2021 in Calgary, Alberta, and will conclude in June 2022.
Nico Parker is an exciting choice to play the role of Sarah. The actress is relatively unknown at the moment, but with experience in big productions such as Tim Burton’sDumbo, the role can be both a good source of industry notoriety for Parker as well as a fresh take on the character of Sarah in the eyes ofhardcoreLast of Usfans.
