All fans ofThe Witcherseries, be it the books by Andrzej Sapkowski, the TV shows, or the games, will know that Geralt of Rivia is the most famous witcher. After all, he’s one of the main characters in the book series, right alongside Ciri, and the games put even greater emphasis on Geralt’s personal storyline.

As such, other witchers fade into the background, except for Vesemir, Eskel, and Lambert. Over the years, there have been multiple other witchers who played a smaller or a bigger part in Geralt’s life andThe Witcheroverall. Some of them have never appeared in the games, so their names might be obscure even for the most devotedThe Witcherplayers.
5Clovis
Geralt had built close friendships with several of his fellow witchers, but Clovis wasn’t one of them. In fact, there was never any love lost between the two witchers even though they both trained at Kaer Morhen to become witchers. Clovis might seem slightly more sympathetic when the players find out he came from an abusive family. As such, his escape Kaer Morhen seems like the best possible step for Clovis. Sadly, Clovis' personality left a lot to be desired and erased any sympathy the other witchers might have for him.
Clovis' behavior made him similar to the infamous School of the Cat witchers who were mostly shunned by others. What’s worse, Clovis despised women and wasn’t afraid to let his opinions about them be heard. That led to a conflict between him and Geralt in the Polish TV seriesThe Hexer. Considering the relatively minor role Clovis had in the series, it comes as no surprise thatthe red-headed witchernever showed up inThe Witchergame trilogy or in the Netflix show.

4Gascaden
Anotherwitcher who trained at Kaer Morhenalongside Geralt and only appeared inThe Hexerwas Gascaden. Unlike Clovis, Gascaden was a more sympathetic character, but the audience didn’t learn many details about him. What’s known is that Gascaden was one of the luckier witchers. A lot of witchers in training die before they can complete their training. Gascaden survived the often deadly Trial of the Grasses and was able to set out in the world to work as a witcher.

While they were still training together, Geralt showed kindness to Gascaden and helped him fix his injury that happened during the training. That proved that even though Gascaden and Geralt didn’t go on to become the best of friends, they weren’t enemies either. Just like with Clovis, there’s no obvious reference to Gascaden inThe Witchergames.
3Osbert
Geralt or the other witchers wouldn’t have learned their craft so well if it wasn’t for their instructors. By far the most iconic witcher instructor at Kaer Morhen is Vesemir who became an adoptive uncle to Ciri and was the only surviving instructor after the massacre at the keep. However,The Hexerintroduced another witcher instructor who trained young witchers ofthe School of the Wolf. He trained the young witchers who passed the Trial of the Grasses that kills many adepts.
Osbert suffered a fateful injury one day. While he was training Geralt and other young witchers, Geralt threw him from his horse. Osbert broke his right arm and had trouble using it from there on. Unlike other witcher instructors, Osbert got his own (albeit unofficial) Gwent card and is portrayed as a witcher armorer, once again proving that every instructor specialized in something else (for example, Vesemir was primarily a swordplay instructor). Osbert is unlikely to ever appear inThe Witchergames unless they decide to return to the past and show Geralt’s training at Kaer Morhen while he was still a young witcher.

2Thornwald
Some witchers become famous thanks to their deeds or by associating with kings and sorceresses as Geralt did in both cases. Thornwald was famous for being the only witcher from the School of the Wolf who wore the original witchers' armor. But he had an even more interesting personal connection to Geralt in the seriesThe Hexer. In the Polish series, Thornwald was portrayed as the witcher who saved the life of Geralt’s father from werewolves and claimed Geralt according tothe Law of Surprise, the same Law that Geralt would use decades later to unknowingly claim Ciri.

Ironically enough, when Thornwald and Geralt dueled years later, it was Geralt who defeated and took the life of the man who changed his own life forever. None of these things happened in the books, though, as it was Geralt’s mother, the sorceress Visenna, who gave him to the witchers, and Thornwald didn’t appear in the books or the game series at all.
1Remus
The Polish TV adaptation ofThe Witcherisn’t the only version that introduced witchers who were missing from the games. So did the Netflix TV show. One of the other witchers who didn’t play a significant part in the show was Remus. There are very few facts known about him, other than that he trained at Kaer Morhen at the same time as Geralt and other better-known witchers, such as Eskel and Lambert, who made it into the games.
Chronologically wise, Remus first appears inthe animated movieThe Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf(2021). He later dies in the Netflix series when he tries to take on the striga because he doesn’t know what type of monster he’s about to face and makes a wrong guess that costs him his life. Triss Merigold later claims Remus ran away with the money instead of dying to avoid spreading panic among the public.
The Witcher 3: Wild Huntis available now for the PC, PS4, Switch, and Xbox One. The PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions are set to launch in December 2022.
