Marvel Studios’Thor: Love and ThunderandBlack Panther: Wakanda Foreverare a couple of the big features set to make their way to the big screen in 2022. Now, it looks as if they will tie into each other, asBlack Panthercharacter Bastet (also goes by Bast) apparently will have a role in the God of Thunder’s next chapter.
The warrior panther goddess Bast played a pivotal role in the creation of the Black Panther, as she was the one responsible for leading the first Wakandan to the heart-shaped herb.Thor: Love and Thunder’s Bast will reportedly be played by Akosia Sabet, whose recent work includes the horror filmWinchesterand the Netflix mini-seriesClickbait.

According to Cosmic Circus, Sabet’s name is listed as playing Bast on IMDB, which means the character will finally make her debut in human form. Bast was first referenced inCaptain America: Civil War, where T’Challa first mentions the goddess when mourning the death of his father. The character then appears inBlack Pantherwhen T’Challa visits the Ancestral Plane after questioning Wakanda’s spiritual beliefs.
WithThor: Love and Thunderdealing withGorr the God Butcher(Christian Bale), the tormented being who’s hatred towards gods has led him to hunt down and kill all of the gods in the universe, it’s likely that Bast will become one of his enemies and eventually turn to Thor as some sort of ally. In the comics, Bast is also the half-sister of the moon god Khonshu, who will play a crucial role in Disney Plus' upcomingMoon Knightseries, so perhaps Bast will be scattered all throughout the MCU’s future.
In addition to the introduction of Gorr in the MCU,Thor: Love and Thunderwillexplore more of Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrieand her rule as the new king, in addition to showcasing Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster (the astrophysicist and ex-lover of Thor who is making her first return sinceThor: The Dark World) taking up the mantle of the God of Thunder. Director Taika Waititi also shared that the film will delve deeper into Korg’s culture while introducing the Space Sharks alien race.
Other than Chris Hemsworth returning once again as the titular hero,Thor: Love and Thunderalso sees the return of Jaimie Alexander as Sif and Jeff Goldblum as Grandmaster. The Guardians of the Galaxy group will also have a smaller role, as Hemsworth’s Thor may appear in their film,Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, as well.
Thor: Love and Thunderis set to release in theaters on Jul 25, 2025.
