New information aboutTiny Tina’s Wonderlandshas been revealed during the IGN Expo, and it appears that theBorderlandsspin-off will be taking place in an interesting part of the series timeline. While the chances are high that most of the events in the game will be part of a story made by Tiny Tina, the conical placement of the gameTiny Tina’s Wonderlandsis unexpected.
Tiny Tina’s Wonderlandsis a follow-up toBorderlands 2’s DLCTiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep,though the game will stand alone from the rest of the series with its own combat system. However, despite the game being a spin-off, it will apparently hold a canonical place in the series timeline.

It appears thatTiny Tina’s Wonderlandswill take place not long after the events ofTiny Tina’s Assault on Dragon Keep.That DLC was set after the events ofBorderlands 2, andit dealt with the Tiny Tina coming to terms with the event of the game and the loss of a friend.Tiny Tina’s Wonderlandplacement does mean that the game will take place before the events ofBorderlands 3.Thus, makingTiny Tina’s Wonderlandtechnically a prequel toBorderlands 3.The developer breakdown ofTiny Tina’s Wonderlandsrevealed additional informationabout the story and world of this spin-off game.
Though, to be fair, while the game does have a canonical place in the series timeline, it is assumed that a majority of the game’s story will be part of an RPG campaign created by the Game Master, Tiny Tina. Therefore it is unlikely that the game will focus much outside of Tiny Tina’s imaginary world. In fact, givenTiny Tina’s whacky behaviorand constant adapting of the narrative in the original DLC adhering to the series canon could be the last thing the developers made as they craft a world created by her.
The announcement ofTiny Tina’s Wonderlandshas breathed new life into theBorderlandsseries. After having four main games set in the same universe,Borderlandsalmost lost the unpredictability that its fans love. However, just fans could be getting tired of the series, along comesTiny Tina’s Wonderlandschanging theBorderlandsformula in a big way. The original DLC was a big hit with fans but could not change much about the gameplay, and it still played like aBorderlandsgame. So it was a great idea by developers Gearbox to make the concept into a full-fledged game with its own systems.
