Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnessis the next big feature film in the MCU to release, and like most MCU films, there is definitely no shortage of rumors. In this case, rumors involving superhero cameos continue to brew, and now in a new leak, it appears that Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man may appear in the film.
After the multiverse was unleashed inSpider-Man: No Way Home, the film saw the return of many characters from previous Marvel films, one beingTobey Maguire’s Spider-Man. After playing a prominent role in that film, it’s very possible that Maguire could return again as the web-slinger in theDoctor Strangesequel, a film that, like its title suggests, will delve deeper into the multiverse as the sorcerer tries to restore it.

Now, those rumors of Maguire’s return could be true. Mariana Torres, the actress who provides the Portuguese voice for Wanda, posted a story on her social media with a message that read, “Good things are coming.” But where things get interesting is another actor, Manolo Rey, is also in the story. Rey happens to provide Maguire’s Spider-Man voice in Portuguese. This recent story indicates that Maguire could very likely appear in the sequel, and with the two voice actors together in the same room, they could possibly be acting out a scene fromDoctor Strange 2involving Wanda and Maguire’s Spider-Man.
On top of that, it would make sense for Maguire to return, as director Sam Raimi (who directed Maguire in hisSpider-Man trilogy) is helmingDoctor Strange 2. Now, none of this is confirmed of course. Many characters have been rumored to make a cameo in the film. After Disney acquired Fox, everyone from Reed Richards fromThe Fantastic Fourto Charles Xavier / Professor Xfrom theX-Menserieshave been rumored to make an appearance. And with a film likeDoctor Strange 2, which has been hyped up ever since the first film’s release back in 2016, Marvel Studios will make sure nothing surfaces until the sequel’s release in May.
With so much uncertainty surrounding the film, what is known is thatDoctor Strange 2will head down a much darker route. Elizabeth Olsen, who will return to play Wanda Maximoff following her appearance in Disney Plus’WandaVisionseries, did confirm thatDoctor Strange 2almost resembles a horror film at times. While Olsen’s comments are not too surprising, considering Raimi is directing the film, it’ll be interesting to see how dark of a film the MCU is willing to push for.
The sequel also starsBenedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange, Benedict Wong as Wong, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Baron Mordo, Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez, and Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer.Lokihead writer Michael Waldron, who was praised for his work on the Marvel Studios series, was hired to rewrite the script along with newcomer Jade Bartlett.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madnessis set to release in theatres on May 21, 2025.
