It appears that a developer build of Ubisoft’s upcoming gameGods and Monstershas leaked through Google Stadia, with gameplay footage now circulating online. While the game is still in a rough state, it appears to be a legitimate playable build, which may lead to serious repercussions.Ubisoft will release five triple-a games by March 2021, withGods and Monsterslikely being one of them.
While it isn’t entirely clear how the build made its way on to Stadia, it has now been removed. However, that didn’t stop gamers from capturing footage of the title, which seems to play like a cartoony version ofAssassin’s Creed: Odyssey. The game was uploaded to Stadia asOrpheus, though it usedGods and Monsterspromotional art as its thumbnail, which was a dead giveaway.

There’s no telling if Ubisoft or Google is at fault here, but its another big blow for Stadia. So far, Google’s game streaming service has been lackluster, with fans andcritics dragging Stadiafor a variety of reasons. A lack of communication and poor software support has been a driving factor behind fans distaste for the service, but if Google is found to be at fault for leaking a game early, it may harm the company’s relationship with developers across the board.
The gameplay is likely to be scrubbed from the internet soon, though it isn’t clear how wide-ranging the leak will ultimately be. Doubtlessly, it isn’t something Ubisoft wanted players to get their hands on yet, as it may wrongly affect opinions of the final game. But considering the nature of the leak, there’s a pretty decent chance that significant portions of the game will soon find their way online.

The next few days will likely tell who is at fault for the leak, and there may be a fallout because of it.God’s and Monstersisn’t Ubisoft’s biggest launch coming up, but it’s still a very large mistake.
