Fallout 4 and Fallout 76’s Base Building Mechanics Have Come a Long Way

TheFalloutfranchise has changed a lot over the years, especially in the modernFalloutgames since Bethesda acquired the franchise, and a lot of these recent changes have been met with heavy criticism from fans who enjoyed the originalFalloutgames. So naturally,Fallout 4taking a bold step to introduce base-building mechanics to the franchise was an inevitable controversy waiting to happen.

Aside from the initial skepticism of this new addition to the franchise, the seemingly inconsistent limitations ofFallout 4’s base-building were also a common complaint of this feature. Yet while some of these limitations are still present today, community mods, newly discovered building techniques, DLCs, and overall updates to the franchise’s building mechanics have led to a community following for this feature, with players sharing their creations with others.

Even thoughFallout 76generally uses the same base-building mechanics asFallout 4,Fallout 76has one advantage thatFallout 4doesn’t, which is the online multiplayer element ofFallout 76. Because of this, players can visit each other’s CAMPs from a firsthand perspective, which allows for a more personal and interactive experience, so sharing CAMP creations is a popular and growing hobby amongFallout 76’s community.

In the past, there have been community CAMP competitions on Bethesda’s official Discord server, themed around holidays or updates forFallout 76. Even beyond this, there is an entire Subreddit, R/fallout76settlements, and several content creators dedicated to showcasing community CAMPs and/oradvanced CAMP-building techniques inFallout 76. However, despite the popularity of players sharing their CAMPs and Settlements, there has never been an in-game platform for doing this, but this will soon change with a new feature coming toFallout 76.

Fallout 76’s Best Builds Feature Will be Right at Home For CAMP Builders

Best Builds is anew feature coming toFallout 76in the Milepost Zero updatethat will allow players to submit their CAMPs so that other players can visit and rate them with in-game likes. Normally, players have to be on the same server to visit another player’s CAMP, but these featured Best Build CAMPs will be available to visit from any server.

This feature is currently available in thePTS forFallout 76, and it may undergo changes before it gets introduced to the live version of the game.

Considering that CAMP showcases in bothFallout 76and Settlement showcases inFallout 4have become an increasingly popular topic, finally having an in-game platform for showing off some of the community’s best creations has been a long time coming. What was once a divisive addition toFallout 4has come to be a welcome part of the recentFalloutgames throughout its time in the franchise. Overall, while the growing appreciation for theFalloutfranchise’s base-building mechanics has been a long journey, these new features for sharing and rating CAMPs coming toFallout 76show just how far things have come, and how this feature will continue to flourish.
