ValheimandWorld of Warcraftcollide in a new mod created by DrakonmanTheFox where Northrend is brought to life in the indie Viking RPG. The modder not only recreated the icy continent from the world of Azeroth, but also added content from the Ashlands, Deep North, and Mystlands Biomes intoValheim.
Valheimcontinues to take Steam by storm, reaching six million units sold this month. It has attracted the attention of players and modders alike, withplayers addingElder Scrolls' Tamrielas well as a first person mode into the game. As players ofWorld of Warcraftalready know, Northrend is the seat of the Lich King and home of the Scourge from the expansion,World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King.

Players who download this mod start in a recreation of the Howling Fjord, and the modder says it was created with “play-ability in mind.” There are some changes those familiar withValheimshould note: Crypts and Burial Chambers will likely spawn outside of their original Biome and default spawn location aren’t necessarily the same as they are in the original. For example, Dragon eggs andeven Sunken Crypts can be discoveredin the Biomes Mistland, Deep North, Mountains, and the Black Forest.
DrakonmanTheFox released this mod on March 25 and, as of this writing, hasn’t published any related work on Nexus Mods. This recreation brings back the decade-old expansion without changingValheim’s Viking aesthetic that Iron Gate Studio created. As the game continues to grow, updates and mods will continue to come, the latest of which, Update 0.148.6, wasreleased at the end of March 2021.
Judging by screenshots, this mod seems to do a pretty good job of recreating and reimagining the wild continent introduced in the expansionWrath of the Lich King. Since its release there have been some struggles with floating trees and land disappearing, but the mod author has been responsive to issues and added installation instructions as well. This appears to be a players best option to relive one of thefirst expansions forWorld of Warcraftin a new way.
The mod should be approached cautiously, as it may be too early to judge its full quality. Updates to the game have already caused some issues for players, so hopefully the author remains attentive to any problems that emerge. For now though,World of Warcraftfans looking to drop back into Northrend with a new spin can do so in the aesthetic ofValheim.
