Several big streamers have jumped ship from Twitch toYouTubeover the last few years, and Valkyrae is one of them. She’s one of the most recognizable faces in the streaming industry, and she’s amassed a giant fanbase over the years that followed her to her new streaming platform. However, having a big fanbase isn’t always a good thing, as theYouTuberexplained when she shared a story about sleeping with a knife on the eve of February 23.

According to Valkyrae, she and her roommates heard a loud noise outside the house late at night. At first, they suspected it might be raccoons getting into the garbage, but a quick investigation revealed that the garbage was too full for the lid to close–it couldn’t have made those sounds. Valkyrae quickly concluded that they might befacing some real-life harassmentfrom fans or haters.

It may not surprise fans of the YouTuber to learn that Valkyrae collects large blades, which she displays on her wall. When the noises became too loud to ignore, she grabbed one of them off the wall and prepared to defend herself and her roommates. She told her followers on her February 23 stream that they could confirm thiswith fellow streamer Sykkuno, who also heard the noise.

Fortunately, Valkyrae didn’t have to use her knife, which appears to feature a curving blade about a foot in length. She kept it close at hand and the whole household reportedly slept with the lights on, but it seems that nothing ended up happening. In her subsequent stream, she stated that the experience was “kind of nice,” because it gave her the chance to run through what she would do if someone actually tried to break into the house. It was apparently reassuring that she was able to grab a knife off the wall and get ready to defend herself during what felt like a crisis. Considering how manyfemale streamers have experienced stalkingor harassment, it may be easy to see why Valkyrae felt reassured by her own actions.

Streamers can be considered a new breed of celebrity, but fame of all kinds comes with a variety of downsides. A lot of streamers over the years, big and small alike, have reported having problems with their followers. Valkyrae’s home has a security system, but she expressed concern over whether it would keep out a truly determined intruder. TheYouTuberappears to be quite willing to use her arsenal in the event of an actual break-in.
