Solid Snakevoice actor David Hayteris usually pretty straightforward when it comes to announcing his upcoming projects, but today he seems to be all about the tease. In a cryptic, hashtag-focused message Hayter seemingly revealed the setting forGrand Theft Auto 6out of the blue.
Early Thursday morning, Hayter posted a tweet with the hashtags “GTAVI” and “Toronto.” He didn’t add anything beyond that, but it was enough to have fans speculating how the two are connected.

Obviously, with Hayter being a prominent video game voice actor, theGTA 6hashtag suggests that he might be working on the next entry inRockstar Games’ popular open world crime series. Although Rockstar typically likes to work with lesser-known actors when it comes to voicing its characters, there is no reason why the studio couldn’t recruit Hayter to the project.
Fans were recently notified thatGrand Theft Auto 6is in early development, which suggests that the sequel likely won’t release for a few years. On top of that, the report suggests that Rockstar wants totry something new withGTA 6and start with a smaller base game and expand from there. It is believed that this approach will eliminate the development crunch that Rockstar Games has been known to employ in the final months of development and allow its staff to release a product in a timely manner without any harsh working conditions.
The other curious element of Hayter’s Tweet is the Toronto hashtag. The most obvious answer would be that Hayter is revealing thatGrand Theft Auto 6will be set in Toronto but that seems a bit surprising given Rockstar Games’ typical M.O. Usually the studio doesn’t outright announce its setting until after a few trailers have released.
On top of that, theGrand Theft Autofranchise uses fictionalized versions of popular cities and states but not the actual locations. So, settingGTA 6in Toronto seems unlikely. Hayter does have a connection to Toronto both as part of his heritage and where he went to college.
Why David Hayter decided to tweet these two hashtags in the early morning with no explanation is likely to have theGTAfan base speculating for a while. Still, when just looking at the situation it seems unlikely that David Hayter would be the one to revealthe setting forGrand Theft Auto 6and that it would be a real world location. Rockstar Games might march to the beat of its own drum when making game announcements, but this is unconventional even for them.
