Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apartlived up to expectations, as fans and critics alike felt that Insomniac Games did a terrific job bringing the franchise to the latest PlayStation console. Alongside a massive arsenal of weaponry, the game successfully introduced a new pair of protagonists inRivet and Kit. While its ending also implies that the future of the franchise is looking bright, some gamers may be wondering if the current game will receive any more content.

WhileRatchet and Clank: Rift Apartdid technically provide some DLC through its Deluxe Edition suits, a proper expansion remains up in the air. Though Insomniac Games did release proper post-launch content forMarvel’s Spider-Man,Spider-Man: Miles Moraleshas yet to receive DLC, and the newestRatchet and Clankmay follow suit. Further, while there is plenty of potential for an expansion set in theRatchet and Clankuniverse, the series' past makes such a release unlikely.

What Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart DLC Could Look Like

On the off chance thatRatchet and Clank: Rift Apartfans do get some DLC, one option would see Insomniac exploring Rivet’s time as a rebel. The story could be confined to a specific time frame, likely before Rivet lost her arm, and it could be interesting to see Rivet early attempts to bringEmperor Nefariousdown. While the villain would have to win in the DLC, or Rivet would need to fight and defeat one of his underlings, seeing her and Phantom fighting against the Emperor could be entertaining.

Another option for such an expansion would be a lot more of anundertaking for Insomniac Games, but it could see the developer exploring the Lombaxes from the Lorbs. Specifically, gamers could see the events that happened before they fled to their new home. They could take control of Mags in this DLC, journeying across the same dimensions that he did when he was charting a course throughout the multi-verse. Players could actually see the PlayStation settings that were visited by the character, with the easter eggs becoming proper playable areas in the extra bit of content.

Why Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart DLC Is Unlikely

As cool as it would be to see Rivet’s younger years, or experience Mags’ adventures as opposed to justhearing about them in Lorbs, DLC forRatchet and Clank: Rift Apartis unlikely. Not only has Insomniac’s most recent game not featured an expansion of any kind, but DLC content has never been something that the series is known for. In the past,Ratchet and Clanktitles have released in a complete state, with the duo’s next appearance coming in a spinoff or sequel as opposed to an expansion. As such,Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apartis unlikely to change that.

Insomniac has set up both aRatchet and Clanksequel and spinoffthrough the game’s ending, so it may be for the best if the series takes a break. Fans have been waiting for some proper answers regarding the Lombaxes for years, and the cliffhanger conclusion ofRatchet and Clank: Rift Apartcertainly implies that those answers are imminent. As such, when players do return to theRatchet and Clankuniverse, it would make sense if that comeback saw players jumping right into the home of the Lombaxes.

While a prequel focusing on Rivet could work, and Mags’ story would absolutely be fun to play due to all thePlayStation easter eggsit would feature, fans should not count on any DLC happening. Not only has Insomniac Games not announced an expansion of any kind, but the series has never been one for post-launch additions. The story also seems to be going in a very clear direction, so stepping off course makes little sense. As such, a smaller spinoff likeSpider-Man: Miles Moralesor a full-onRatchet and Clanksequel seem much more likely to happen than some DLC.
