Summary

World of Warcraft: Dragonflightbrought with it a reinvigorated method of travel by introducing players to Dragonriding. This mechanic allows for dynamic flight, where players must make use of real-life aerodynamic forces to achieve great feats of speed and agility in the air. What’s more, this stunning feature came with some truly awesome customizations.

There are a handful of basic Dragonriding mounts that players can obtain inWorld of Warcraft, each with a unique shape and set of animations. The main draw for these mounts is that all are totally customizable, and once players collect appearances through in-game activities, there’s no limit to the combination of features they can give their dragons. However, there was initially one exception to this: the Grotto Netherwing Drake.

How World of Warcraft’s Trading Post Is Making Dragonflight’s Best Feature Even Better

A Mount From World of Warcraft’s Trading Post Is Getting More Variety

The Grotto Netherwing Drake was amonthly Trading Post reward for July 2023, and many players who earned it were ecstatic to whiz around the Dragon Isles on a Netherwing dragon. These dragons are native to Outland and first featured in the Burning Crusade expansion, sporting their utterly unique, magically warped appearance. At first, there was no customization for the Grotto Netherwing Drake, but players were content nonetheless.

But, with the arrival ofpatch 10.2,World of Warcraftbrought an extra-special surprise. The Grotto Netherwing Drake was added to the roster of Dragonriding mounts that could be customized, allowing players adventuring within the new Emerald Dream zone to collect new colors and features for their outlandish dragon.

These color changes include many of the various chromatic schemes that belonged to the original Netherwingdrake mounts from Burning Crusade, which is a nice nostalgic touch. On top of that, there are options that haven’t been seen before, like new body markings, crests, and eye color. Now, it really lets this alien-looking drake reflect a player’s personal tastes.

WoW Players Who Missed the July Trading Post Can Still Get the Netherwing Drake

That being said, the best part of patch 10.2 for this Netherwing Drake is that it’s now available to all players who couldn’t get their hands on it in July. When players enter the Emerald Dream, they can pick up the fully voice-acted Misfit Dragons questline, which, when completed, gives them their shiny new Grotto Netherwing Drake, free of charge. The initial quest is given by Wrathion beneathAmirdrassil in the Emerald Dream zoneand the rest of them are as follows:

World of Warcraft Has Added New Netherwing Dragon Lore

Rather intriguingly, the lore surrounding these quests has been given some thought.Wrathion, a well-known black dragon, beseeches the player to meet the Netherwing Emissary to welcome his minor dragonflight to Valdrakken. Even though they’ve been born and raised in Outland, they are still dragons whose ancestors came from Azeroth, and they deserve to witness their birthright. Their prince, Mordenaku, agrees to officially join the Valdrakken Accord.

Even the Stormheim Dragons From WoW: Legion Get Some Love

Players also get to travel to Stormheim and recruit the Thorignir dragons, extending an invitation for them to join the Accord too. They wanted to go, but couldn’t since their master, Odyn, forbade them.Vyranoth, the Ice Incarnate, alongside the player, promptly gave the Titan Keeper a verbal and literal beating in response. There is currently no storm drake Dragonriding mount, but that may change, especially now that Odyn has been given a lot to think about.

Dragonriding, perhapsWorld of Warcraft: Dragonflight’s best feature, has given players a real incentive to dive into current content. Encouraging players to stick around by offering them more cosmetic keepsakes to collect is a surefire way to keep them playing and makes for a truly rewarding experience.
