World of Warcraftis an excellent option for those looking to invest some time playing games during the coronavirus pandemic. The MMORPG offers countless hours of gameplay for players both new and old. One thing that might be holding new and returning players back is the daunting leveling. If players spend quarantine leveling and then have to go back to work afterward,World of Warcraftdoesn’t sound quite as appealing. Luckily, Blizzard has an answer.

Between now and April 20, Blizzard is introducing the “Winds of Wisdom” buff inWorld of Warcraft. This buff will increase experience gain in theWorld of Warcraft Starter Edition, as well as theLegionandBattle for Azerothedition owners. The buff even works in tandem with other experience buffs, including heirloom gear.

That means that the Winds of Wisdom will buff experience gain between the levels of 1-120. It will work for all players, no matter the version of the game they have. That includes the freeWorld of Warcraft Starter Edition, the automatically upgradedLegionplayers, and those up to date withBattle for Azeroth. It’s a great opportunity, especially for returning players thinking about leveling up an Allied Race alt.

SomeWorld of Warcraftplayers are trying to estimate how much faster leveling from 1 to 120 will be with the buff. Assuming that an inexperienced player might take 50 hours to level up an alt, the buff might cut as much as 20 hours from that.Fast levelers, alternatively, could cut a 25-hour leveling experience down to 15.

One thing worth noting is that Blizzard has already announced what’s called a leveling squish with the release of the nextWorld of Warcraftexpansion,Shadowlands. Blizzard’s spoken goal for the new leveling experience is a 60-70% faster path from the first level to the max level. With the Winds of Wisdom both, leveling will be close to that lower threshold (with heirloom gear). In other words, if players want to wait forShadowlandsbefore leveling, they’ll be having a similarly fast or better leveling experience.

Also, for clarification, the experience buff is for the standard versionWorld of Warcraft. It’s not available inWorld of Warcraft Classic. Leveling inWorld of Warcraft Classicis a definitive part of the experience, and adding an experience buff would be like cutting out a core aspect of the game– it’s as important to finish as earning loot. To take it away would be a gross shame, which is why Blizzard didn’t.

The Winds of Wisdom 100% experience buff will last from now through April 20. Take advantage while it’s still available.
