For many, Twitch can be a full time job and keeping up with the high school drama that Twitch creates can be an excessive amount of overtime. This leads many streamers to sometimes go on hiatus, taking a break from the platform, whereas others seem intent on challenging it over its inconsistent banning policies. Perhaps the most popularWorld of WarcraftTwitch streamer right now is Asmongold, who hasbroken records on the streaming platformin the past.

However, he too took a hiatus in the early parts of 2020, updating hisWorld of Warcraftand Twitch fans on his personal life in mid-February, and eventually announced his return to streaming for April 2. It’s not been a month since he’s returned, and looking at the happenings online, it’s a wonder if he’s not already considering leaving again.

Twitch: Asmongold’s Hiatus

As aforementioned,Asmongold explained his hiatusnot too long ago. Alongside some issues in his personal life, Asmongold was “uncomfortable in a mainstream position” and felt that he could not do or say the things he wanted to. He talked about “clout-chasers” and the negativity he has experienced on the platform, although some could say part of that he brings on himself with controversial statements. Such is the role of a Twitch streamer. But Asmongold made it clear that he was going to return to the platform in the future, hinting at new games, speaking his mind, and text-to-speech implementation.

After a rough period,Asmongoldannounced he was returning to Twitch andWorld of Warcrafton April 2, joking that no one would believe him if he announced April 1. It has been a month now since his return, and it seems that he is still plagued with the very same issues that caused him to leave in the first place.

Twitch: Asmongold’s Return

Looking at the highlight reel of the few weeks is almost like looking at a sometimes hilarious, sometimes dark blooper reel. Of course, perhaps the most innocent yet nonetheless rage-inducing moments is when aWorld of WarcraftGM killed Asmongold’s party. They had made their way from Revendreth to a void between the Shadowlands' realms, further exploring some other areas not available to the public as well as glitched areas. Quickly, Asmongold’s party died one by one, killed by the aforementioned GM. Asmongold was quite upset, even calling the GMs “cowards” for not facing him.

Around the same time, Asmongold’s account was muted. Asmongold didn’t say anything to deserve the punishment, but because roughly 40 people reported him quickly, he was auto-silenced. This wouldn’t have likely happened to someone who wasn’t famous onWorld of Warcraft, and it’s clear he was quite upset about, calling out theWorld of Warcraftdevsand Blizzard customer support on Twitter. On top of this, for the past few days, Asmongold has been targeted by another user who has harassed him with racial slurs, for seemingly no reason.

This all happened within the past week or so, meaning that’s there’s likely been more good times than bad, but it certainly shows the cost of being “famous.” Asmongold’s problems seem to be more directed toward WoW than Twitch lately, something that may be surprising with theconstant issues of Twitch, but it’s clear the streamer has had a rough week nonetheless.

World of Warcraft: Shadowlandsis scheduled for release for PC some time in 2020.
