According to a recent update from Microsoft,Xboxgamers will no longer have access to one console feature thanks to recent changes in the Twitter API. Over the past few months, the social media platform has undergone some noticeable changes afterElon Musk acquired Twitter in October 2022. One of Musk’s most recent changes is how the platform will handle its API with third-party stakeholders moving forward. Now, it appears these changes have affected even Xbox players.Twitter has gone through its fair share of controversial changes in recent times with its new API access policies one of the most notorious. Under the platform’s new policy, access to Twitter’s API will come in priced tiers where large enterprises like Microsoft would have to pay as much as $42,000 per month to gain access. As a result, theXboxmaker recently announced that its dropping Twitter from its advertising platform starting April 25. Microsoft opting out of paying $42,000 per month also meant that some of the Twitter integrations with platforms like its Xbox consoles will no longer work.RELATED:Microsoft’s Xbox Mobile Gaming Store Might Launch in 2024Xbox’s official account recently confirmed that due to recent Twitter API changes, the company has disabled the ability to game content to Twitter directly from Xbox consoles and the Game Bar on Windows. Of course, Microsoft isn’t the only gaming entity to disable features thanks to the Twitter changes. Back in February,World of Warcraftannounced that it was removing Twitter integrationsfollowing the API changes. Fortunately in Xbox’s case, players can still share clips to Twitter via the Xbox mobile apps on Android and iOS.

It’s worth noting that this is one of the few of Twitter’s questionable policy changes following Musk’s buyout. Back in December,Twitter announced it will restrict cross-promoting other social media platformsand that it will begin removing accounts, tweets and prohibiting posts about third-party platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Mastadon. At the time, Twitter also claimed it will ban accounts or tweets using link aggregators like linktr.ee and lnk.bio. Most recently, the social media platform followed a similar approach with regard to Substack as well.

As for Xbox, the removal of the ability to directly share gaming content from Xbox consoles and Windows to Twitter isn’t welcome news for gamers. Although, the Xbox maker has been busy looking to grow its gaming offering to users, particularly with the company’s efforts like its recent gaming partnerships and apotential Windows 11 handheld gaming mode. Additionally, with many expecting Microsoft’s Activision Blizzard deal to get the green light soon,Xboxgamers have plenty of things to get excited about in the coming future.
