Ubisoft’s upcoming free-to-play first-person arena shooter,XDefiant, is a modern take on classic FPS games — all set to rekindle the nostalgia associated with olderCall of Dutytitles. Following successful open and closed beta tests,XDefianthas high hopes for a breakout hit, captivating players with its innovative approach to character customization and cross-franchise factions. Thankfully, the days of waiting have finally come to an end, as Ubisoft’snewest title has an official release date.
Release Date & Time For XDefiant
Since it was officially announced in July 2021,XDefianthas faced tons of development hurdles, ultimately delaying its launch. After years of setbacks, the game’s Preseason is finally set to arrive onMay 21, 2024, at 10:00 AM PT / 1:00 PM ET.
XDefiant’s Preseason will launch onPC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S, featuring all the content from the two-day Server Test Session held in April 2024. ThePreseason will last for six weeksbefore going into a seasonal cadence, with regular updates every three months.
Each season will bring fresh additions to the game, including new weapons, maps, battle passes, events, and a whole new playable faction — giving players a reason to keep coming back more.
All rewards earned during theServer Test Sessionand Insider Sessions will be available in-game at launch.
XDefiant Gameplay Details
XDefianthas been generating quite a buzz with its unique crossover concept, where worlds from Ubisoft’s popular franchises collide into a single game. At launch, players will have access tofive different factions:Phantoms(fromGhost Recon),Echelon(fromSplinter Cell),Libertad(fromFar Cry),Cleaners(fromThe Division), andDedSec(fromWatch Dogs). Four of these will be available from the get-go, but you’ll need to work hard to unlock the DedSec faction.
Instead of being restricted to a single universe, XDefiant lets you choose your character from these different factions andcustomize it with traits, abilities, weapons, and more.Once they’re satisfied with their character, players can engage in fast-paced, team-based multiplayer matches across different game modes and a variety of maps.
XDefiantfeatures five modes;Domination, Hot Shot, Occupy, Escort, and Zone Control,and several maps from the Ubisoft universe. There is also a“Ranked Mode Practice Playlist”where players can practice and battle it out in4v4 competitive matchesin Domination, Occupy, Escort, and Zone Control.
