The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Timeis well established as one of the most beloved games of all time. As expected, over the almost 23 years since its release, fans have paid tribute to the classic title through cosplay, fan art, jewelry, and countless other ways. Now, oneThe Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Timefan has shown their love for the game in a unique way—through the use of over 50,000 dominoes.
While fans have certainly seen eye-catching tributes toOcarina of Timebefore, such as theengagement ring modeled after Zora’s Engagement Ring, but perhaps none as time-consuming as this one by TheDominoKing. The images themselves are beautifully shaded by using an enormous variety of colored dominoes, but perhaps the most impressive aspect of the entire endeavor is that they all fall over without a single hitch.

Over a period of over two weeks, YouTuber TheDominoKing meticulously pieced together four images connected by and made entirely of dominoes. The first in the series is a beautiful picture ofthe eponymousOcarina of Time, a string of dominoes, shaped like the Triforce and different types of rupees, connects the picture to an image of the Hylian shield, which in turn connects to an image that reads “Link.” Another string of dominoes leads finally to the cherry on top of the series, a huge portrait of Link with the Master Sword on his back. While physically piecing it together took him two weeks, TheDominoKing reveals in the video’s description that planning the layout of the dominoes for the project took over two years.
This tribute toOcarina of Timeis far from TheDominoKing’s first project. His works run the gamut from homages to singlecharacters like Yoshi, Bowser Jr., Pikachu, and the like, to tributes to games likeRed Dead Redemption 2,Animal Crossing, andMinecraft. While theOcarina of Timetribute comes in at a staggering 54,609 dominoes, it’s far from his largest project. That distinction belongs to a 260,214 domino salute toSuper Mario Maker 2.
With 2021 markingThe Legend of Zelda’s 35th anniversary, TheDominoKing’s video could not be more timely. While many viewOcarina of Timeas the pinnacle of the series, others continue to debate whether theclassic game should port to Nintendo Switch. Regardless of fans' views on theOcarina of Time, it’s difficult to ignore the skill and patience that piecing together a 50,000 domino project would take.
