The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomhas confirmed the return of weapon durability, a controversial feature that was divisive amongBreath of the Wildplayers.Breath of the Wildintroduced many new concepts toThe Legend of Zelda, with weapon durability being one of them.

Prior toBreath of the Wild,The Legend of Zeldaplayers didn’t have to worry about weapon durability. They also had a much more limited arsenal of weapons at their disposal, withBreath of the Wildopening the door for Link to pick up and use nearly any weapon he came across on his adventure.Weapon durability was not particularly popularwith manyBreath of the Wildplayers, so some may be disappointed to learn that it’s making a comeback inTears of the Kingdom.

This was confirmed in the recentLegend ofZelda: Tears of the Kingdomgameplay presentation, which not only revealed that weapon durability is back in the new game, but that Link will have some fresh abilities at his disposal. One such ability may actually help alleviate concerns about weapon durability inTears of the Kingdom, though, as it allows Link to essentially create his own weapons with stronger durability than the ones he finds lying around.

Does Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Have Weapon Durability?

As seen in theZelda: Tears of the Kingdomgameplay video, one of Link’s new abilities is Fuse. Using Fuse, Link can combine different objects to create new weapons. The example shown in the video saw Link using a stick as a weapon, something that players had to do many times inBreath of the Wild. The stick becomes damaged after Link’s battle, but there’s no need to worry about it breaking. Link was instead able to fuse the stick with a rock to create a brand-new hammer-like weapon, which had the bonus of fixing the weapon’s durability problems.

So even though weapon durability is indeed back forThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, the good news is that Link’s new abilities will make it sting a little less. Fuse could be enough to appease those who were staunchly against weapon durability after playingBreath of the Wild, though it’s possible it doesn’t go far enough. Ultimately,The Legend of Zeldaplayers will have to wait and play the game for themselves to know for sure. Luckily, the wait to play is nearly at an end, asThe Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomrelease dateis coming up next month.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdomlaunches May 12, exclusively for the Nintendo Switch.
